IELTS Band Score Formula
Calculating the IELTS band score involves averaging the four individual band scores for Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
IBS = (BSL + BSR + BSW + BSS) / 4 = overall band score
- IBS = IELTS band score
- BSL = Band score in listening
- BSR = Band score in Reading
- BSW = Band score in writing
- BSS = Band score in speaking
How to calculate ielts band score?
For example, let’s you received the following individual ielts band scores: Listening 7.5, Reading 8.0, Writing 6.5, and Speaking 7.0, calculate ielts band score
Given
- band score in listening = 7.5
- band score in reading = 8.0
- band score in writing = 6.5
- band score in speaking = 7.0
Ielts band score = (listening + reading + writing + speaking) / 4 = (7.5 + 8 + 6.5 + 7 ) / 4 = 29 / 4 = 7.25
Finally, round the average to the nearest half or whole band to obtain the overall band score. In this case, the rounded overall band score would be 7.0.
