Mass |
Free online moles to mass calculator – Calculate the mass of a substance in grams, based on its molecular formula.
How to convert moles to mass?
To convert moles to mass, you need to know the molar mass of the substance you are working with. The molar mass is the mass of 1 mole of that substance and is expressed in grams per mole (g/mol) determines the moles(mol) then multiply the moles by the molar mass then you get mass of the substance.
Moles to mass formula
M = n * MWt
M = mass in grams
N = Number of moles(mol)
MWt = Molecular Weight(molar mass) = molar mass is the sum of the atomic masses of all the atoms in a molecule
How to solve moles to mass
Example: Let’s say you have 5 moles of water (H₂O) then convert it to mass in grams.
Solved
Given, Number of moles = 5 moles of water
Molar mass of Water = = 2(1 g/mol) + 16 g/mol = 2 g/mol + 16 g/mol = 18 g/mol
Mass = n x Mwt = 5 mol * 18 g/mol = 90 g
So, 5 moles of water is equal to 90 grams.
